What (and what not) to pack

We know it can be a mammoth task trying to pack everything into the car when you’re going on holiday. So at Tredarrup Holiday Cottages we try and provide as much as possible for you, so that you can pack light...

in the kitchen

We provide a welcome pack for your arrival that contains a pint of Cornish milk, some freshly baked bread, Cornish butter, eggs from our hens and a home-made cake. If you have any special dietary requirements then please let us know in advance and we will do our best to supply alternatives. There is also a starter pack in your kitchen of teabags, filter coffee, espresso capsules and sugar - so once you’ve unloaded your car you can sit down and enjoy a restorative cup of tea or coffee and a slice of cake.

In your kitchen we provide sea salt and black pepper, olive oil, kitchen roll/paper towel, cling film/Saran wrap, aluminium foil, dishwasher tablets, washing-up liquid, a washing-up sponge and cloth, tea-towels/dish towels and an oven mitt.  There are also plastic tubs and some ice packs should you wish to take packed lunches on your excursions. There’s no need to bring bottled water with you either, we have our own private supply of pure fresh water – nothing added, nothing taken away, just filtered and far nicer tasting than tap water. Under the sink you will find a small selection of cleaning products if required.

We are very happy to take delivery of a supermarket shop on the day of your arrival so there’s no need to pack lots of food or have to visit a supermarket when you arrive– we will put any chilled items in your fridge/freezer for you. Waitrose, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda all deliver to Tredarrup. There is also a local farm shop here in Cornwall that can deliver local produce and everyday essentials to your cottage. You can order online at www.food4myholiday.com. This is particularly useful if you’re visiting us from overseas and don’t have a UK supermarket account.

A local company delivers really good quality, fresh, hand-made meals using local ingredients. These are then frozen and delivered to your cottage ready for you to put straight in the oven whilst you unpack - particularly useful for your first evening but also great for mid-week if you’ve been out exploring all day. Further details are available on their website www.angelsinthekitchen.co.uk. Again we’re very happy to take delivery for you prior to your arrival.

in the Living room

There are a selection of books, magazines and games in each cottage, plus a notepad and pen. Netflix is available free-of-charge on the television and there’s also a small selection of DVDs provided. You’ll also find an Ordinance Survey map of the local area and some books and printouts of walks in North Cornwall.

In Mill Barn there are 2 DAB radios with AUX in cables and a CD player. In all other cottages there is a DAB radio with Bluetooth speaker, so don’t forget to load some music onto your device to play whilst you’re here.

There will be a basket of logs for your first evening or two with some kindling, newspaper and firelighters and more are available to purchase in the utility room. Charcoal for the barbecue is available to purchase in the shared utility room.

in the Bathroom and bedroom

Linen is provided for the beds, which will be made up for your arrival. We provide a lovely fluffy white bath sheet, hand-towel and face-cloth per person. If you’re staying with us for longer than a week your bedlinen and towels will be changed part way through your holiday. Please bring your own beach towels to take out with you.

In your bathroom you’ll find hand soap and body lotion and a loo roll per person. We also provide a selection of hotel-size toiletries for your first day or two, including shampoo, conditioner, bodywash and lotion.  There’s a hairdryer in each cottage too.

In our 5 Star Gold cottages for couples, Shippon and The Wagon, we also provide spa-style bath-robes and slippers that are great for relaxing in after a shower or for lounging in on a Sunday morning with your complimentary Sunday newspaper.

We remember what it’s like to travel with children so to lessen the load we can provide travel cots, high chairs, booster seats, bed guards, changing mats, microwave sterilisers, plastic cups and bowls, non-slip bath mats, baby baths, door/finger guards and bathroom steps to reach the sink. If you would like any of these do please let us know well in advance of your arrival so we can reserve these items for you and have them ready in your cottage. Travel cots have a thin foam mattress – if you would prefer to bring your baby’s mattress then do get in contact and we’ll let you know the size of the cot available. We’re unable to provide bed linen and blankets for the cot for health and safety reasons so please bring your own along with you.

All our cottages have fireguards. Mill Barn has stair gates to go at the top and bottom of the stairs – all our other cottages are on the ground floor.

Shared Utility Room

There are detergent tablets for the washing machine in the utility room – please ensure all children are accompanied by an adult when in the utility room. There is also a tumble dryer here and some drying racks/clothes airers.  Outside there is a washing line in the shared garden area with a tub of pegs.  Hopefully this will minimise the amount of clothes needed to pack for your holiday. We raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution who provide a valuable lifeguard service on our beaches in Cornwall, in addition to rescuing lives at sea, and are entirely funded by donations. In the utility room there is a lifeboat collection box and we kindly ask all our guests to please donate £1 for each use of the washing machine and tumble dryer to help fund this invaluable service.

There are some outdoor games kept in the utility room, such as badminton, swingball, boules, and quoits. We have some children’s bodyboards too that you’re very welcome to take to the beach, along with some windbreaks, beach mats, buckets and crabbing lines. First aid kits for both people and dogs can also be found here.

In addition to a few home-made biscuits to welcome them, we provide a roll of poo bags for your dog - if you and your dog get caught short whilst you’re here and need some more then please just ask.

We can provide a dog towel and food and water bowl too if required – please let us know before you arrive and we’ll have them ready.

We would prefer that dogs were kept off the sofas but, having two rather spoilt dogs ourselves, we realise they often have other ideas. We therefore provide old blankets/throws in both Stable Cottage and Shippon for putting on the sofa should your dog be used to the finer things in life.  Please don’t allow them on the beds though.

Should you have any questions before your stay regarding what to bring or what not to bring or what's available locally then please drop us a line - we're always happy to answer any queries you may have.
