What (and what not) to pack

We know it can be a mammoth task trying to pack everything into the car when you’re going on holiday. So at Tredarrup Holiday Cottages we try and provide as much as possible for you, so that you can pack light...

in the kitchen

We provide a welcome pack for your arrival that contains a pint of Cornish milk, some freshly baked bread, Cornish butter, eggs from our hens, locally produced apple juice, Cornish tea and filter coffee, some Lavazza espresso pods for your coffee machine and a home-made cake or scones - so once you’ve unloaded your car you can sit down and enjoy a restorative cup of tea or coffee and a slice of cake. If you have any special dietary requirements then please let us know in advance and we will do our best to supply alternatives.

In your kitchen we provide sea salt and black pepper, sugar, olive oil, kitchen roll/paper towel, cling film/Saran wrap, aluminium foil, dishwasher tablets, washing-up liquid, a washing-up sponge and cloth, tea-towels/dish towels and an oven mitt.  There are also plastic tubs, some ice packs and a cool bag should you wish to take packed lunches on your excursions. There’s no need to bring bottled water with you either, we have our own private supply of pure fresh springwater – nothing added, nothing taken away, just filtered and far nicer tasting than tap water. Flasks and cups are provided so you can take hot or cold drinks with you on your day-trips without the need for plastic bottles. Under the sink you will find a small selection of cleaning products should you need them.

We’re big fans of shopping locally to reduce food miles, support small local businesses and reduce unnecessary packaging so we have a milkman who delivers lovely Cornish milk in glass bottles, and a selection of other local produce, to us twice a week. If you would like to order something for delivery before or during your stay then details can be found here.

In addition, a local family run catering company delivers excellent quality, delicious, fresh, hand-made meals, prepared using local ingredients. These are then frozen and delivered to your cottage ready for you to put straight in the oven whilst you unpack - particularly useful for your first evening but also great for mid-week if you’ve been out exploring all day. Again we’re very happy to take delivery for you prior to your arrival. A private chef service is also available - ideal for big family celebrations or birthday gatherings. BBQs, Easter lunches, buffets or just a restaurant quality meal for two can all be enjoyed in the comfort of your own cottage. For further details of both services click here.

There is also a local farm shop that will deliver fresh Cornish produce, along with everyday essentials, to your cottage ready for your arrival - they even unpack and put it away for you! You can order online at www.food4myholiday.com. This is particularly useful if you’re visiting us from overseas and don’t have a UK supermarket account.

We’re very happy to take delivery of a supermarket shop on the day of your arrival, so there’s no need to pack lots of food in the car or trawl round a supermarket when you arrive, and we’ll put any chilled items in your fridge/freezer for you. Waitrose, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda all deliver to Tredarrup - just let us know your delivery time slot in advance.

in the Living room

You’ll find a selection of books, magazines and games in each cottage, plus a notepad and pen. Netflix is available free-of-charge on the television and there’s also a selection of DVDs provided. You’ll also find an Ordinance Survey map of the local area and some guidebooks and printouts of walks in North Cornwall.

In Mill Barn there are 2 DAB radios with AUX in cables and a CD player. In all other cottages there is a DAB radio with Bluetooth speaker, so don’t forget to load some music onto your device to play whilst you’re here. Each cottage has a standard USB socket so you can just bring a charging cable and leave the bulky plug at home. We also have a few worldwide-to-UK plug adapters available - please let us know if you would like one during your stay.

There will be a basket of logs in your cottage for your first evening or two with some kindling, newspaper and firelighters - please help yourself to further supplies, which can be found in the log store in the courtyard outside the cottages. A bag of eco-friendly, locally sourced charcoal is also provided for your barbecue.

in the Bathroom and bedroom

Luxurious, silky smooth 100% Egyptian cotton linen is provided for the beds, which will be made up for your arrival. We provide a lovely fluffy white bath sheet, hand-towel and face-cloth per person. If you’re staying with us for longer than a week your bedlinen and towels will be changed part way through your holiday.

In your bathroom you’ll find a range of luxury natural toiletries from St. Kitts Herbery at nearby Camelford: hand soap, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, plus bubble bath in Stable Cottage and Mill Barn. We also provide plenty of environmentally friendly loo roll. There’s a hairdryer in each bedroom too.

In our 5 Star Gold cottages for couples, Shippon and The Wagon, we also provide spa-style bath-robes and slippers that are great for relaxing in after a shower or for lounging in on a Sunday morning with your complimentary Sunday newspaper!

We remember what it’s like to travel with children, so to lessen the load we can provide travel cots, high chairs, booster seats, bed guards, changing mats, microwave sterilisers, plastic cups and bowls, non-slip bath mats, a baby bath and bathroom steps to reach the sink. If you would like any of these do please let us know well in advance of your arrival so we can reserve these items for you and have them ready in your cottage. Travel cots have a standard wipe-clean mattress – if you would prefer to bring your baby’s own foam mattress then do get in contact and we’ll let you know the size of the cot available. We’re unable to provide bed linen and blankets for the cot for health and safety reasons so please bring your own along with you.

Fireguards can be provided on request. Mill Barn also has stair gates to go at the top and bottom of the stairs – all our other cottages are on the ground floor.

Shared Utility Room

There’s eco friendly laundry detergent and fabric softener, that’s kind on the skin, for the washing machine in the utility room. There’s also a tumble dryer here and drying racks/clothes airers, an iron and ironing board. Outside there is a washing line in the shared garden area with a tub of pegs.  Hopefully this will minimise the amount of clothes needed to pack for your holiday. We raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution who provide a valuable lifeguard service on our beaches in Cornwall, in addition to rescuing lives at sea, and are entirely funded by donations. In the utility room you’ll find a lifeboat collection box and we kindly ask all our guests to please donate £1 for each use of the washing machine and tumble dryer to this wonderful life-saving charity.

There are some outdoor games kept in the utility room, such as badminton, swingball, boules and quoits. We have some children’s bodyboards and adult/teenage traditional Cornish wooden bellyboards too that you’re very welcome to take to the beach, along with some windbreaks, beach mats, buckets and crabbing lines. A first aid kit can also be found in the utility room, as can a vacuum cleaner should you need one.

Should you have any questions before your stay regarding what to bring, or what not to bring, or what's available locally then please do drop us a line - we're always happy to answer any queries you may have.
